Rxiin Tnamet

In cooperation with the Global Fund for Women,
Lacewing has made a grant to a Guatemalan
organization named Rxiin Tnamet. They provide health services to indigenous women and girls in the Solala region, serving 21 village communities around Santiago Atitlan.
Lacewing has helped them open a new community based clinic. The clinic is staffed by Mayan health professionals. The clinics provide midwife services, prenatal care, family planning, pediatrics, dental care, pharmacies and lab services. They offer training in reproductive health, birth control, and reproductive rights. They have served 27,000 women and girls. The majority of the women served are illiterate and non spanish speaking. 75% of them live in poverty. Rxiin Tnamet means " of the people".
They are doing remarkable work in their own communities.
One of our board members, Deidra Wager, recently visited Rxiin Tnamet. She was able to talk with some of the volunteers and midwives about their work. They are thrilled to be working together in this clinic. They are proud to share their learnings with their friends and peers. Deidra was very impressed by how far these determined, courageous women have managed to come in such a difficult environment.
