LACEWING PROJECTS
Las Marias School Scholarship Fund
Las Marias is an elementary school in a rural area of the Jinotega department of Nicaragua. The nearest high school is 45 km away. The children who attend Las Marias have no means to continue their education after sixth grade.
Lacewing began a scholarship program for the 2007 school year. We have committed to sending two children a year through 5 years of higher education. The children are chosen based on their scholastic performance, their readiness to live away from their families, and their parents’ involvement in the program. The scholarship recipients attend a vocational high school which specializes in computer sciences, accounting and secretarial skills. The school year has just been completed. The first two SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS WERE at the top of their class. We are currently in the process of evaluating the next group of sixth graders.
